Privacy policy
We run a newsroom, not an advertising business. This page says exactly what news.troiana.net collects, why, and how to make us delete it.
Last updated 29 July 2026
The short version
The data controller for news.troiana.net is Troiana Marketing Agency Sh.p.k., a company registered in Gjilan, Republic of Kosovo (business number NUI 812008755) and operating from Prishtina.
We don't sell your data, we don't run advertising trackers, and we never store your raw IP address. The only personal information we hold is what you deliberately send us — a message through the contact form, an email address for the newsletter, or a response submitted for publication beneath an article. You can have any of it deleted by asking.
What we collect
When you send us a message
The contact form collects your name, email address, the reason you picked, and your message. We store a copy on our server and email it to the editorial desk so we can reply. That's the only thing we use it for — you will not be added to any mailing list because you wrote to us.
When you subscribe to the newsletter
We store your email address and the date you subscribed. Nothing else. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe instruction, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.
When you join an article discussion
We collect the display name, email address and response you submit. Your name and response may be published after editorial review; your email address is kept private and is used only for moderation, abuse prevention or contacting you about that response. Submissions are not published automatically.
Abuse prevention
Our forms, article responses and newsroom login are rate-limited so bots can't flood them. To do that we store a one-way hash of the sender's IP address, salted and re-salted every day. We never write the raw IP address itself to disk, and because the salt rotates daily the hash can't be used to recognise you tomorrow, or on any other site.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard web-server logs (requested page, timestamp, browser user-agent, IP address) for a short period as part of running and securing the server. These are the host's operational logs; we don't use them to profile readers.
Cookies
Reading news.troiana.net sets no cookies at all. There is no tracking pixel, no advertising tag, and no cross-site identifier anywhere on the public site.
Two narrow exceptions:
- Newsroom login — if you are a member of staff signing in to the admin area, a session cookie keeps you logged in. It is strictly necessary, expires when the session ends, and is never set for ordinary readers.
- Your consent choice — if we ask you about analytics (below), your answer is remembered in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again. That never leaves your device.
Analytics
At the time of writing, news.troiana.net runs no analytics of any kind — so no banner appears and nothing is measured beyond the server logs described above.
If we later add privacy-respecting audience measurement, it will be switched on only after you accept it in a consent banner, and this page will be updated to name the service before it runs. Declining leaves the site fully functional; we'd simply have fewer numbers.
Fonts and other third parties
The site's typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Loading them means your browser makes a request to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, which discloses your IP address and browser to Google as part of serving the font file. Google states it does not use these requests to build advertising profiles; you can read their explanation.
Apart from fonts, embedded video (where a story includes one) is loaded from YouTube's youtube-nocookie.com domain, which sets no tracking cookie unless you press play. We embed nothing else from third parties.
Why we may use it
Where data-protection law such as the GDPR applies, our grounds are: your consent (newsletter, and any future analytics), and our legitimate interest in answering the messages you send us, keeping the site up, and stopping abuse. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting what came before.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages — kept while the enquiry is live and for our records afterwards; deleted on request.
- Newsletter addresses — kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Article responses — pending submissions are kept for moderation; published responses remain with the discussion unless you ask us to remove them. Private email addresses are never displayed.
- Rate-limit hashes — automatically discarded within hours; they exist only to count recent attempts.
- Server logs — retained by our host under their own schedule, typically a matter of weeks.
Who else sees it
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. The only parties that necessarily touch it are our web host, which stores the site and its data, and our email provider, which carries the message that reaches the desk. We may disclose information if the law genuinely requires it.
If you send us a story tip, we treat your identity as confidential. For anything sensitive, please don't rely on a web form — email us and we'll agree a safer channel.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it — and to receive a copy in a portable format. Write to info@troiana.net and we'll answer within 30 days. If you think we've handled your data badly, you're entitled to complain to your national data-protection authority.
Children
news.troiana.net is written for a professional audience and is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect their data; if you believe we have, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. Material changes — a new processor, a new category of data — will be described here in plain language rather than buried.
